The floating city

The floating city contains of a combination of architecture from different countries.

 

Mankind has always been fascinated by huge buildings that reach up to the sky. Many legends, myths and symbols like for example the biblical Tower of Babel telling us about.

The novel of the writer Jules Verne, from 1901, “A floating city” 

provides as inspiration for the short experimental art video.

The video shows combined images of architecture of different cites. As a result of various and complex mirroring the city seems to float.

Living in times of globalisation I want to create an utopia of cities without borders and locations produced from traditional architecture.

The city is located in the clouds, a metaphor of nowadays moving in a speed rush.

「The Floating City」は様々な国々の建築物の集合体の上に成立している。人類は常に空にそびえる巨大建造物に強い関心を抱いてきた。バベルの塔の物語をはじめ数々の英雄や神話、象徴がその事を現代に伝えている。Jules Verne の小説「A floating city」に触発され、この映像作品は作製された。作中では様々な都市の建造物が建ち並ぶ姿が映し出される。風景の一部は鏡に映り込み、あたかも空中都市のような姿を呈す。作者がこの作品において意図したものは、伝統的な建造物が示唆する地域性やその間にある境界線を排した国際化社会の理想卿の形だ。雲の中に存在するこの浮遊都市は、高速で移動する現代社会の姿を示唆している。
